DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – One person suffered serious injuries after a vehicle caught fire while traveling on I-35 in Duluth on Monday afternoon.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Nissan Altima was traveling northbound in the right lane of I-35 near 5th Avenue West when the vehicle began to catch fire.
Troopers say all five occupants jumped from the vehicle while it was still moving.
The unmanned vehicle then struck the barrier on the right side of the roadway before crossing traffic lanes and coming to rest against the barrier on the left side.
One passenger was taken to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. The other three occupants also suffered injuries, but troopers say those injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The State Patrol says the incident is being investigated.
