CLOQUET, MN (CBS-3) – Authorities say a man fatally shot himself after an hours-long standoff with police in Cloquet Saturday.
Authorities responded just after 10 a.m. Saturday to a home on Ridge Road in Cloquet on a report of a man armed with a gun who entered a house and threatened the residents.
Cloquet Police officers safely removed the residents from the home.
During the next two and a half hours officers tried to negotiate with the suspect for him to surrender.
Eventually, officers used “less than lethal efforts to bring an end to the event.”
At some point during the exchange, police say the man killed himself with his gun.
None of the officers on scene were hurt or used their firearms.
The deceased 20-year old is from the Twin Cities and his name will not be released until his family is notified.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
The Cloquet Police Department, Fond du Lac Police Department, Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol all responded.
