SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – The suspect in the officer involved shooting Sunday morning in Superior has been identified. 28 year old Dylan Wallace was charged with several felonies including attempted murder and bail was set at 2 million dollars in a court appearance on Monday.
According to Northern News Now, court documents show Wallace and his girlfriend had been at his work Christmas party earlier Saturday night. The documents allege Wallace was intoxicated and on the way home, assaulted his girlfriend, who then ran into a nursing home looking for help.
Police Chief Paul Winterscheidt said two officers pulled Wallace over around 2:45 Sunday morning in connection with that domestic call. Police say Wallace got out of his vehicle and fired multiple rounds using a semi-automatic rifle.
He hit one of the officers, a woman who police have not publicly identified, and the squad car. The wounded officer got out of her squad and fired back at the suspect, hitting him before he drove off. The other officer on scene also fired their weapon toward the suspect.
Wallace then crashed into the Superior Middle School where he remained until surrendering to authorities after 7 a-m.
Police say the officer who was hurt is home and doing well. Both officers who fired their weapons are on paid administrative leave.
