DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – St. Louis County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the scene of a small plane crash near the 8300 block of the Pequaywan Lake Road north of Duluth.
A call was received at 8:12 a-m Wednesday from the Air Force that a registered aircraft beacon alarmed and a spotter plane observed possible wreckage on the ground.
When deputies located the crash site, both the pilot and a passenger were found deceased.
The 1946 Aeronca plane had recently completed an annual inspection and was on a “return to service” flight at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash is not known and the FAA and NTSB will be investigating the accident.
The victims have been identified as 60 year old Bryan Handyside who was piloting the plane and the passenger 64 year old Matthew Joseph.
