DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A fire at a two story, eight unit apartment building around 6 a-m on Saturday in Duluth has left two residents dead.
Firefighters arrived at the structure, located at 631 East 3rd Street, to find heavy smoke and fire.
They began rescuing multiple residents who were not able to exit the building on their own.
One of the occupants who was removed through a window was taken to a hospital and later died. Another occupant in the same apartment was found diseased.
Two firefighters sustained some burns and were taken to a hospital for treatment and later released.
The building had significant damage from the fire and much of the roof collapsed.
The Red Cross is assisting residents that were displaced in the fire.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Duluth and State Fire Marshal’s offices.
Authorities have identified the victims as 52 year old Michelle Kathleen Olson and her son 24 year old Patrick Arthur Olson.
