DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Duluth Police have announced an initiative to cut back on the number of catalytic converter thefts within the city.
Since September 1st, police have responded to about a dozen of the thefts where the converters are cut off and sold for the high value precious metals they contain.
Police, in partnership with some auto repair shops, are using an identification kit to mark catalytic converters.
It is hoped that potential thieves will leave the marked converters alone.
You can have your converter marked for free by stopping in to 4th Street Auto, Thompson’s T-Express or the All Star Service Center.
The program is grant funded and links the marked I-D number to the vehicle’s VIN number.
