DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The weekend races associated with Grandma’s Marathon got off to a fast start on Friday evening.
At the 36th Annual William A. Irvin 5K, Mason Shea from River Falls, Wisconsin took the men’s title with a time of 15:40. The women’s division was won by Flannery Cerbin-Bohach from Cresco, Iowa finishing with a time of 18:56. It was the largest Irvin 5K on record with 2,152 finishers.
On Saturday, the 33rd Annual Gary Bjorklund Half Marathon saw a new women’s record set. Maggie Montoya won with a time of 1:09:26, 20 seconds better than the previous record set by Kara Goucher in 2012. The men’s division was won by Joel Reichow with a personal best of 1:02:30.
The full marathon saw Elisha Barno winning for the 5th time with his best time in Duluth of 2:09:14, just 8 seconds short of the Grandma’s Marathon record. Lauren Hagans, running her first ever marathon, won the women’s division in a time of 2:25:55. There were 6,683 runners in this year’s Grandma’s Marathon, the largest number since 2016.
