DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A storm system packing heavy snow and strong winds will hit parts of the Northland Wednesday night and Thursday.
The National Weather Service Office in Duluth has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Carlton and south St. Louis Counties in Minnesota and Douglas County in Wisconsin.
Up to 11 inches of snow is expected with the highest totals along and east of the I-35 corridor in Minnesota and across Douglas County.
Strong off-lake winds will cause considerable blowing and drifting of the snow and a lakeshore flood watch will also be in effect along Lake Superior.
A Blizzard Warning is posted for Bayfield and Ashland Counties for up to 16 inches of lake enhanced snow and strong winds making for difficult or impossible travel in the usual snow-belt areas.
Overnight low temperatures will be around zero with wind chill factors in the 20 below range. Even colder temperatures move in as skies clear up early Friday morning.
The storm is expected to drop even more snow to the south of the Twin Ports with nearly two feet expected in the Twin Cities area.
To the north, snow totals diminish with 2 to 5 inches for most of the Iron Range.
