One of the hallmarks of this UMD program under Scott Sandelin — one that we hardly ever talk about, frankly, unless the Bulldogs are winning a championship — is how his personal mantra of “never satisfied” has spilled into the locker room.
It’s a lot easier said than done, but the greats in the game are able to keep working and are never resting on their laurels. Sandelin says it’s “just how I’m wired,” but anyone who saw the first ten minutes of Friday’s game knew he wouldn’t be thrilled with the game, no matter how it ended.
Sandelin has harped on his team’s starts to games for a while here. Yes, they’ve had some good ones here and there, but the problem is just that: They’ve been here and there, not consistent. Friday was average at best, as evidenced by the fact it took UMD more than seven minutes to record a shot on goal. Sandelin said after the game he felt like his team passed on a few chances to get pucks to the net. And given how much Miami’s goalies struggled in Friday’s game, Sandelin will be even more upset if that event repeats itself in this rematch.
A few changes for UMD. 13 forwards will dress, and the fourth line has been reconfigured to have Luke Loheit centering a returning Luke Mylymok (first game since Jan. 9) and Blake Biondi. Jarrett Lee dresses as an extra forward, so Darian Gotz (seventh defenseman Friday) is scratched.
Zach Stejskal starts in goal.
For Miami, Brian Silver draws in up front, while Bray Crowder moves to the blue line. Defensemen Rourke Russell and Alec Capstick will be out. Ludvig Persson, who started Friday but was chased on the third UMD goal, will start again.
