ELY, MN (KDAL) – Following a seven hours search, a missing bear hunter was found safe by a State Patrol helicopter in the BWCA early Tuesday morning.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, a man at a remote campsite on Clark Lake near Ely called 911 just after 6 p-m Monday when he was unable to locate his hunting partner.
The two were walking down a path when the 64 year old man stopped to rest a sore knee. When the reporting party returned to the location where he had left his partner, he was unable to locate him.
The St. Louis County Rescue Squad, the U-S Forest Service and Minnesota State Patrol began a search of area trails and lakes in an attempt to locate the lost party.
Just after 1 a-m Tuesday, the State Patrol helicopter found the victim who had made a fire on the shore of Battle Lake, about a mile and a half from the Clark Lake campsite.
The lost man was in good health with no injuries and was reunited with his hunting partner.
