SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) - Superior's old Globe Grain Elevator was built in 1887 and was operational for over a hundred years.  The facility was made from "old growth" eastern white pine and a company was formed in 2006 to salvage and sell the 6 million board feet of lumber that the elevator and adjacent buildings contain.  Judy Peres, President of the company called "Wisconsin Woodchuck" , says the process has been very slow but rewarding.  The wood being salvaged is like nothing else available today and is being sold and incorporated into a variety of buildings across the country.  Samples can be found in this area at the Amsoil Arena and a new pizza place in Canal Park.  Several restaurants and a micro brewery in Chicago and a newly remodeled natural foods store in Minneapolis also contain wood from the Globe Elevator.  More information about Wisconsin Woodchuck and the deconstruction process can be found at www.wisconsinwoodchuck.net
