CHILTON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin is losing two more wind energy projects.

Midwest Wind Energy of Illinois says it’s scrapping plans to build a 98-megawatt wind farm in Calumet County, and a second project at a location that had not been announced.

The firm says it will move the wind farms to other states that are more receptive to hosting them. Stefan Coe, the president of Midwest Wind Energy, says it doesn’t make sense to invest in what he called “a state that is creating unreasonable roadblocks for wind development.”

On Wednesday, a state legislative committee told the Public Service Commission to come up with new statewide rules for locating wind farms. The Legislature’s rules committee rejected the previous rules – which were not as restrictive as proposals from Governor Scott Walker and some GOP lawmakers.

A week ago, Invenergy of Chicago canceled plans to build a major wind farm south of Green Bay. Keith Reopelle of Clean Wisconsin says he hopes the PSC will move quickly to create what he calls a workable set of rules.
