ALLEGAN COUNTY (WKZO) -- By far the biggest financial issue on the ballot Tuesday is the return of the Allegan County Jail vote.

It has been stripped down and simplified from the request voters rejected by a wide margin in August, and puts a cap on the amount voters can be assessed for the project, at just under 4/10's of a mil.

The rest, approximately 30% would come from the general fund.

Sheriff Blaine Koops said the current jail is too small and old and difficult to manage.

Koops believes there may have been some voter confusion in August and hopes the simplified request will clear it up.

A typical homeowner with a taxable value of $50,000 dollars a year would pay about $20 in additional taxes each year, if the measure passes.
