Duluth, MN (KDAL) Downtown Duluth parking meters will soon allow parking for an extra twenty minutes after the City Council approved a compromise extention last night. The current limit is one hour and the original proposal from Councilor Jim Stauber would have increased that to two hours. Stauber amended the plan to add just twenty minutes and it passed on a 6 to 3 vote. In other action last night, the council defeated a measure that would have supported the city in their efforts to sell the steam plant to Veolia, a French energy firm. That appears to have stalled a tentative deal by the city to sell the steam cooperative for 7.3 million dollars.
