CHIPPEWA FALLS (WRN) - A Chippewa Falls woman is scheduled to enter a plea December 22nd to stealing $375,000 from a dying man from Dunn County. 56-year-old Lynda Larson has been ordered to stand trial on 3 felony counts of theft in a business setting. Larson had power of attorney duties for Ingvald Melgaard – and prosecutors said she transferred certificates of deposit to a joint account for her own gain. She said Melgaard told him to move the funds, and she didn’t know it was a joint account until after he died in 2006. Prosecutors said Melgaard could not answer questions about his health for more than a week before his death. But the defense said the state cannot prove that Melgaard could not give a consent to cashing the CD’s, because he was not ruled to be mentally incompetent. He was in his 80’s at the time.
